The word 'Planchette' is a French word meaning: "little plank". They were originally designed to hold a pencil and allow the person of psychic ability to hold it and allow the spirits to write through them and were popular during in the Victorian era.
The design of this Planchette was to facilitate the Ouija Board and communicate with spirits via the asking of questions and viewing the answer through the Planchette 'eye'.
